His/Herstory of Deluxe Communications

Deluxe Communications was established in 1988 by Alan C. Clapp and partner Geraldine Glattstein.

Alan is best known as a legendary broadcaster, visionary, filmmaker, organizer, and dreamer. Among his many accomplishments, Alan produced the first “hour newscast” in North America: the award-winning BCTV News Hour.

He also produced The United Nations NGO Conference, Habitat Forum, engaging luminaries such as Buffy Sainte-Marie, Bill Reid, and Margaret Mead, a Habitat icon.

Alan was instrumental in the planning and development of Vancouver's Granville Island and its public market. In 2015, the City of Vancouver unveiled a commemorative plaque outside his office at 1290 Cartwright Street. The plaque honours Alan's vision and his integral role in the creation of Granville Island.
